It was around this time that the lines between the rich and the poor became to blur a little. Poor women kept up with fashion just as easily as rich women.
Flappers were a revelation in the fashion communities. Long dresses were cut short and short, boyish hair was all the rave. This was an extremely important time in history for women because it lead to the free expression of women. Birth control was growing, women could have sex without having to face the back lash of society.
How Flapper Culture Was Born
After World War I, women where expected to go back to the kitchen and return to their wifely duties. Women did not like this idea and took freedom into their own hands. But this wasn't the only reason why Flappers boomed. The Spanish flu popped up in 1918, leading to women to enjoy their freedom while they where still alive.
Margaret Sanger made sure that the birth control movement was underway. She produced 10 films about Birth Control and the first Birth Control Clinic was opened in 1916. But not everyone was open to it, Christian Women opposed it because it was a gate way to pre marital sex.
Short bobbed hair was all the flair, movie stars and regular women sported this style. This also a result of women exploring their freedom.
Notice how birth rates dropped as birth control became more wide spread.
